Have you got the time?
a.m. is used to tell after 12 midnight to before 12 noon.
p.m. is used to tell tome between 12 noon to 12 midnight.
Weekdays are the five days from Monday to Friday.
Weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
Writing the date:
If is different to write the date in British and American styles.
If you write:
5/8/2008
It means, the fifth of august, 2008 in British, but it means the eight of may, 2008 in America, so you should write : 5 august 2008 instead, because it can be understood clearly.
*Remember that you have to write the in capital letter.
In British style, people write the day first, followed be the month and the yeal like 21 January 2008
. For American people, they prefer to write the month first, like January 21 , 2008.
Sometimes, especially in the business letter, it is not necessart to write st , nd ,or th the day, like 8 April 2008 ,April 8,2008
Months of the year:
There are 12 months in a year. All months have 30 0r 31 days except which has 28 days(but 29 is leap year).
the abbreviations or short forms shown are the most common ,but other abbreviations are possible, for example: Ja./Fe./Ma. Or J./ F./m
the day c0lumn show the number of days in the month. All month have 30 or 31 days, except for February which has 28 days (29 in a leap year).
How to use prepositions of tome
“ in ” is used with month, year, and seasons.
“ on ” is used with days and dates
“ during ” is used with the period or the whole course of time and even at some point in the of time.
“ used ”with the exact time.
“at” is also used with three expressions:
At noon at present at this time
At night at the present time at this moment
At dawn at the time
At sunset at the moment
At midnight
“ while” is used to explain the time during the whole of the time. You can use it with the clause or with gerund and a place.
